EWG (Environmental Working Group)

I have to admit somethingðŸ˜ģ

…. I have a new obsession… .
and it’s not Beautycounter products per say, but does relate! ðŸ˜‰

It’s this awesome website and app called Environmental Working Group (aka EWG).
I have a serious addiction to checking all of our products in our house and seeing what “score” they get ðŸ™„

You can simply type your products name into the search bar or scan it into the app, and bada bing bada boom  there it is! It’s that easy (and really fun)!🙌

If a product is EWG certified, that means it is the safest and that the company has identified every single ingredient and nothing is hiding in a tricky term. A 10 would be very toxic, as in, should be thrown out TODAY!

I have found (through my 1.000’s of scans😂) that sometimes a product will have a score around 3 or 4, but when I click in to see more of the information, often the companies haven’t disclosed all of the components that go into making it, so the score is only derived from the information that EWG has access to. Most likely this would be the ingredients listed on the back, which to the naked eye may look okay…. However, there are many things that potentially could go into a let’s say the word fragrance. For example, they could be essential oils which would be GREAT👍, or they could be derived from chemicals👎
I could talk about this for hours so if you have time feel free to give me a callðŸĪ™, but otherwise try it for yourself!
Now how does this link to BC, wellllllllll 34 of our 107 products are EWG certified AND none of our products score above a 3🙌💙💋!!

Top Five BeautyCounter Products

Top Five Beautycounter Products

Number One

Over the next few days I am so excited ðŸ˜Žto share with you my top five LOVES from Beautycounter.
I was introduced to my first love by a friend who was posting about safer products.  . I wanted to provide my child with protection from the sun, however didn’t want to load him up with chemicals. I took a leap of faith and ordered a bottle of Protect All Over Sunscreen from her. This was, and still is my Beautycounter true love, and it was love at first application
What I LOVE about the product (as a busy mom in non-scientific terms)-
- It rubs in very quickly and smoothly. Other “clean” sunscreens I had tried typically took forever to rub in and left a white film all over, and let’s be honest, trying to get sunscreen on a child is hard enough as it is ðŸĪŠ
- Once on, usually about 3-5 minutes, you don’t even know you have it on! It absorbs fully and doesn’t rub all over things, like car seats, clothes, towels, it STAYS on your skin😂
- It feels like you have body lotion on. Usually when I would put sunscreen on it would dry out my skin, but this feels like regular lotion ðŸĨ‚
- The smell is divine, there is a light citrus ðŸ‹ðŸŠðŸˆscent that is totally NOT a sunscreen smell.
- It’s water-resistant, so the kids can swim and it won’t come off! ðŸ’Ķ ðŸšŦ
- Best of all, it’s safe!

Why

I am here first and foremost for my love of the "clean" products.
I have always dappled in clean products, however was never fully committed to it, as convenience seemed to always win and outweigh my desire #twoundertwo
We have successfully been using a cleanER laundry detergent and have switched over a few other household items but still have a LOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go.  The first step to realizing there is a problem is to ADMIT that there is a problem and.......

There is a problem.......

I was introduced to a personal hygiene product company a few years ago called Beatuycounter and have been a customer ever since.
I recently joined arms with some fellow mamas and have become a consultant with this amazing company.  I truly feel honored to be a part of this movement, because Beautycounter is a B corporation.
You maybe asking what is a B corp?
Well.....  A B corp is a company with a social mission. They are companies that use their business platform to solve social and environmental problems. There are only around 1900 B corporations from 29 countries in the world and Beautycounter is proud to be one of them!! Other B coprs that you may know of are Patagonia, TOMS, Ben and Jerry's...basically we are an awesome company with a TRUE mission.
There are tons of different skincare and cosmetics companies out there, but this.........this makes us different, and this is why we're growing.
We’re more than just safe, beautiful cosmetics…we’re a group that educates friends and family, we're a group that is fighting everyday for stricter regulation in the hopes of change.

Now, I'll get off of my soap box to get back to reason we are all here :)

Nothing about our first sons pregnancy or birth was easy. We had had multiple miscarriages and waited  3.5 years prior to finally holding our first miracle in our arms and from that moment on I have been consciously trying to make our little world a healthier, better, cleaner, safer place.

Being a first time mom (up at 2 am frantically looking for all of the answers of the world via google nonetheless) I started researching sunscreens for our son as summer was coming. I couldn’t believe all of the toxins and junk that was in them. And on top of that, how much of it was absorbed into our bodies though our skin!!! I felt cheated and lied to all these years, yes I didn't and don't want to burn and get cancer from the sun but........... I also didn’t want to be putting chemicals that potentially caused cancer on my, or worse yet, my child’s skin to protect it from getting cancer (get it, it felt like an oxymoron)!
So this is how, where, and why I started my journey to clean out our personal hygiene products.
My intentions of this blog are to unite moms on products that are safe, clean, and easy, because Laaaaad knows we need easy..............
